Obituary

William J. Powers, 76, of West Wareham formerly of Ashland, passed away Thursday June 15th. Mr. Powers was the husband of Pauline (Oates) Powers. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William and Caroline (Boface) Powers. Mr. Powers graduated from the Mt. St. Charles School in Woonsocket, RI and attended Northeastern University. He served his country honorably in the United States Marines and the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Powers lived in Ashland for over 38 years before moving to Wareham 4 years ago. He was employed by Boston Gas for 25 years and finished his career with Portland Pipe & Fitting Co. where he was employed for 15 years. Besides his wife Pauline, Mr. Powers is survived by 4 sons; Peter Powers and his wife Marilyn of Hillsboro, NH, Joseph McGillicuddy and his wife Monica of Hampstead, NH, William Powers and his wife Tracy and Michael Powers and his wife Megan of Bellingham; and eleven grandchildren. Mr. Powers was predeceased by his sons Patrick and Paul. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Tuesday June 20th at St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty Street in Ashland. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held at the Matarese Funeral Home (www.mataresefuneral.com), 325 Main Street, Ashland from 5-8:00 PM on Monday, June 19th.
