Obituary

William G. Dwyer, 98, of Framingham passed away peacefully Friday Jan. 17th at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Millbury, MA in August of 1921, William (or Bill as he was known) was the fifth child of eight to John and Edith (Johnston) Dwyer. A graduate of Worcester South High, Bill helped provide for his family until he went to enlist in WWII. Bill and a friend went to Canada to enlist in the Canadian Royal Air Force. While there, on December 7 1941 Pearl Harbor occurred, and he was sent back to the United States. After his return, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres. He was deployed in the Battle of Engebi, the first stage in the American conquest of Eniwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands. He earned the rank of Master Tech Sgt while serving with the Air Warning Squadron (AWS 1), using one of the first radar systems in the war.

During his time in the Marines, Bill met his future bride, Marion (Lilla) while on leave. After a whirlwind romance, they married on September 12, 1945. Because of the GI bill, Bill was able to attend WPI for a time after his service. With a family to support, Bill went on to work for RCA Co, representing the Northeast Territory up through Buffalo.

After several moves, Bill and Marion settled in Framingham in 1950. Bill left RCA and co-founded Lake Systems Inc., an audio and visual architect engineering company. Among their many jobs, they set up and serviced the communication systems at Schafer Stadium, Sturbridge Village, covered the Pope John Paul II parade route, and set up the broadcasting systems for Channel 66. His military and business careers afforded him many foreign travel opportunities, to Europe, The Middle East, and Japan.

In addition to his devotion to his career and family, Bill was an avid golfer with an 8 handicap at his peak. He was a longtime member and past president of the Framingham Country Club. He was a die-hard fan of his beloved Boston Sport Teams, especially the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Bill and his family attended St. Bridget Parish in Framingham.

Bill was predeceased in death in 2018 by his beloved wife of 72 years, Marion. He is survived by three sons, William M. and John R. Dwyer of Framingham and Richard J. Dwyer and his wife Martha of Winthrop; three daughters, Dianne Morgado and her husband Richard of Mattapoisett, Nancy Dwyer-Hurley of Oxford, and Paula Forrester and her husband Thomas of Cohasset, seven grandchildren, Christopher and Ami Morgado, Michael and Joseph Hurley, Jillian and Allyson Forrester, and Stephen Dwyer, four great-grandchildren, William, Sean, Michaela and Arianna Dwyer, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Dwyer, brothers, Roy, Arthur, Doug, Ralph, and Robert Dwyer, and sisters, Ann Hambuechen and Edith Davidson.
