Wilfred "Baldy" Moran, 91, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, April 29th at his home following a short period of declining health. He was the husband for 68 years of the late Marguerite (Poules) Moran, who passed away in 2004. Mr. Moran was born in Ashland and was the son of the late Beatrice (Welch) and John Moran. Baldy was an Ashland florist for 55 years. He and his wife owned and operated Moran's Greenhouse in Ashland since 1945, before retiring in 2000. Baldy was a very active man and had played professional baseball. He enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cribbage, walking and watching sports. He was President of the Kiwanis Club, sang with the Barber Shop Quartet, scouted for the Red Sox and coached many baseball teams in Ashland. His sense of humor brought laughter to many people. He is survived by one son: Jeffrey T. Moran and his wife Flo of Medway; a son-in-law, Robert Geneseo of Hopkinton; five grandchildren, Dean Moran of Framingham, Michael Geneseo of Portland, ME, Nicholas Geneseo of Hopkinton, Ryan and Kasey Moran of Medway; and one great grandchild, Hunter Moran of Ashland. He was the father of the late Karen J. (Moran) Geneseo of Hopkinton who passed away in 2002. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 7th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, (www.mataresefuneral.com) 325 Main Street, Ashland. Family and friends are welcome.
