Obituary

Wayne E. Hubener 80, died February 28, 2013. He was born in Barre, VT and grew up on a farm in Maine until the family moved to Framingham to be near his father at Cushing hospital. At age 17 he joined the Army, he was a proud member of the 187 RCT Airborne during the Korean war, he was transferred to the 25th Infantry Division where his group was captured and he was a Korean POW for over two years. He was released April 24, 1953 and discharged with honors including a Purple Heart Medal. Prior to moving to Vero Beach, FL, he resided in Ashland Massachusetts, where he raised his children. He worked at Data General as Facilities Manager from 1979 to 1997. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen I. (MacLeod) Hubener. Survivors include brother George (James) Hubener of Merritt Island, FL; sister Nancy Warner and her husband Eldon of Draper, UT; brother Allan (Bucky) Hubener and his wife Carol of Merritt Island, FL; son Kenneth A. Hubener and his wife Cynthia of Seffner, FL; daughter Karen A. Bridge of Merritt Island, FL; son Wayne E. Hubener Jr and his wife Janet of Mendon, MA; grandson Scott Hubener, and step-grandchildren Dan Gardner, Kristen Martello Blair, and Brian Martello Jr, many nieces, nephews, and friends A Graveside service will be held Sat. April 13th at 12:00 PM with military honors at Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. One calling hour will be held Saturday from 11:00-11:45am prior to the service at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland.
