Obituary

Una Joan Bigelow, 82, of North Fort Myers FL (formerly Ashland, MA and Rindge, NH), passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice Care in Cape Coral on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023.  Born in Woburn, MA, she was the daughter of the late George and Eliza Walters.  Una was the beloved wife of Joseph Bigelow with whom she shared 33 years of marriage.  She was predeceased by her brother George Walters and his wife Joyce, of Florida.

Una was the loving mother of Jeffrey Horan, Paul Horan and his wife Sandy, Michael Horan and his wife Michelle, and John Horan and his wife Melissa, with her former husband the late John "Jack" Horan of Framingham. She was also stepmother to Maureen Bigelow, Denise Pearson, Christina Davis, Jennifer Bigelow and Melissa Bigelow.

As proud grandmother of Christopher, Amanda, Lucas, Stephanie, Michael, Rebecca, Aaron, and Daniel Horan, and great-grandmother to Stella and Franklin Horan, Una leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends, as well as family in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.

Una was a 1959 graduate of Woburn High School, Chandler School for Women, and attended Newbury College. She was employed with the Framingham Police records department, General Electric, Lenmar Realty, and retired from American Cancer Society in Framingham. Una then worked as a school bus driver for students with special needs for First Student in Rindge, NH. Most recently, Una volunteered to help plan UAW retiree meetings with her husband Joe, as President of the UAW SWFL Retirees.

Una was a member of Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in N. Fort Myers, FL and past member of the Federated Church of Ashland, MA, where she found great comfort and peace in her faith. Una enjoyed an active life full of many passions and hobbies. An avid New England Patriots football fan and 25-year season ticket holder with her sons, she attended the historic Snow Bowl game in 2002. She had great love for her two dogs Patches and Bella and enjoyed swimming, dancing, ceramics, recreational RVing, international travel to the Holy Land, Caribbean, Greece, Egypt and many other destinations.

There will be no calling hours. A private burial will be held at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA. A Celebration of Life will take place in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA on Wed. Oct. 11th at 10:00am.  In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Una's name to the American Cancer Society.
