Obituary

Thelma Louise (Good) Oakes, February 11, 1931 – March 26, 2023
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Thelma Louise (Good) Oakes, age 92 of Ashland, MA. Thelma is survived by her children, Linda Gould and her husband Glenn, Sherry Gidney, Glenn Oakes and his partner Glenn Scott, and Daniele Oakes, her four grandsons, Sean Wolf, Scott Gould, Chris Gould, and Ryan Gidney, and four great grandchildren, Gavin Gould, Delainey Grace Gould, Dylan Gidney, and Brendan Gidney.

She is predeceased by her husband David Thomas Oakes, her parents Lewis Freeman Good and  Gwendolyn (Welfoot) Good, a son Timothy Oakes, and two brothers, Lewis Freeman Good Sr., and Robert Good.

Thelma was a spirited, life-loving, generous person. She was the oldest living member of her First Community Church of Southborough, a member of the Order of Eastern Star of the Orient Chapter in Framingham, MA., and was recently awarded her 50 year membership pin. Their Motto: "Friends are Gods way of taking care of us".

She had a compassion for caring for people and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Marie Esther Nursing & Rehabilitation home in Marlborough, MA., caring for the Nuns for many years before her retirement. Thelma was an avid Elvis Presley fan, loved his music and visited his home in Graceland.  Elvis memorabilia was part of her Ashland home's decor.

Thelma grew up in Newton MA. After High School she moved to Florida and completed Beauty Culture Cosmetology School.  Missing the change of the seasons and her love of the 'Cape Cod Canal' where she spent summers as a child, she moved back to New England and had a summer home for many years right on the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne, MA.

Thelma loved to ski and travel. She got to ski in New Zealand with her brother Freeman, climb the pyramids in Egypt, and visited her family's castle in Scotland. Her zest for life will truly be missed by her family and friends.
