Sylvia Janet Pidacks' Obituary
Sylvia Janet Pidacks, 93, of Ashland passed away Friday Nov. 25th. She was born in Prentiss, ME the daughter of the late Flora and Russell Belden. She was the wife of the late Charles Pidacks who died in 2011. Sylvia graduated from Lee Academy and the University of Maine Class of 1944 with a degree in Zoology. She had a long accomplished career in drug research and development beginning with American Cyanamid – Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY. She would later work at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, NY and LaMont Oceanographic Biochemical Institute in the research field. After her retirement, she worked with tissue culture at Weston Nurseries in Hopkinton during the 1980's.
Mrs. Pidacks is survived by four children; Janet Underwood and her late husband James of Franklin, WV; Charles R. Pidacks and his wife Cindy of Marlboro, MA; James Pidacks and his wife Judy Murray of Winchester, MA; and Deborah Paton and her husband James of Carmel, ME; four grandchildren; Jarreas Underwood, and Lee, Michael, and Stephen Pidacks, and two great-grandchildren; Leilani and Ian Underwood. She is predeceased by her sisters, Caroline Belden and Shirley Gabriel.
A memorial service will be held Friday December 23rd at 11:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mass. Lions Club Eye Research, PO Box 150, Ashland, MA 01721
