Stanley G. Wyman, 91, of Ashland, MA died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 18, 2019. Stan was born in Detroit, Maine, March 3, 1928, to Franklin and Mildred (Pierce) Wyman. He spent his early years in Pittsfield, Maine where he was a 1946 graduate of Maine Central Institute where he was a good student and exceptional three sport athlete. He was recently inducted into the Maine Central Institute Athletic Hall of Fame.
Upon graduation he joined the US Army. After being honorably discharged he attended Husson College where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Almonte, with whom he shared 62 years of love and devotion. They moved to Ashland, MA in 1950 and Stan began a 43 year career as a meat cutter, manager and later buyer for the A&P.
Stan was the Treasurer of the Meat Cutters Union for several years and also served on several town boards in Ashland. He coached baseball in the Ashland Little League and was a member of the Ashland Men's Club and the Ashland/Holliston Tennis Club. He was co-owner of Huff and Puff Catering.
Stan was a devout Catholic who served on several committees at St Cecilia's Parish. He was a Past Grand Knight of Bishop Rice Council 4822 of Ashland where he was also the Treasurer for many years.
Stan and Joyce moved to Belchertown, MA in 1977. Stan was one of the founding members of St Francis of Assisi Belchertown Knights of Columbus Council 10698 and served as the first Grand Knight of the Council and later served as Treasurer for several years. He also became a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He was the 2004 recipient of the Springfield Bishop's Circle of Stewards Award.
Upon retirement, Stan became a "full time" volunteer at St Francis of Assisi Parish where he worked on multiple committees and was in charge of handling finances from 1993 until 2011.
After Joyce died in 2011, Stan moved back to Ashland.
Stan leaves his brother Barry Wyman and wife June of Carmel, Maine; sons Jack Wyman of Milford and Jay Wyman and wife Cheryl of Holliston; and daughters Jan Porter and husband Paul of Upton and Jill Ackerman and husband Owen of Ashland; grandchildren Courtney Canto and husband Carlos of Holliston; Chris Wyman and wife Jackie of Milford; and Kali Ackerman and Cara Ackerman of Ashland; and great grandchildren Liliana Canto, Nathan Canto and Dylan Wyman.
Stan also leaves over 40 nieces and nephews, his sister-in-law Virginia Almonte of Southborough, brother-in-law Perino Almonte of Pittsfield, Maine and his very dear friend Alvine Thibodeau of Ashland.
Stan was predeceased by his parents, his wife, three children (Jean, Jane and Joel) and 5 sisters, Barbara Kitchin, Elaine Fortin, Betty Hussey, Gloria Peters Taylor and Janice Coston.
Calling hours are at Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St Ashland, on Sunday July 21 from 3 to 5 pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday July 22 at 11AM at St. Matthews Church, 26 Highland St., Southborough, MA.
