Samuel John MacNeill, 44, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 19th at his home in Framingham. Samuel was born in Joliet, Illinois, and lived in Michigan before moving to Marlborough, Massachusetts in the mid 1970's, and then to Holliston, Massachusetts, where he attended and graduated from Holliston High School. Following graduation, he attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. His matchless wit, intelligence, vast knowledge of and passion for music, art, history and science, along with his gregarious, generous and caring nature won him many friends throughout his lifetime. He was employed by Papa Gino's for years, many of them in management; briefly as a server at Chili's in Framingham, and finally, Bertucci's in Holliston. He was known for his professionalism and gracious manner with patrons, and was considered a valuable team member and friend, by his staff, co-workers and employers throughout his career. He enjoyed spending time with friends and was a dedicated and loving partner to his high school sweetheart and fiancée of the past 5 years, Lynn Batten, with whom he shared not only a home but what he considered to be the love of a lifetime. He was a treasured friend and mentor to her children, Ashley, Jessica and Tyler Gray as well. Samuel is also survived by his father, William MacNeill, his step-mother Barb MacNeill; his brother Rob MacNeill; his sister-in-law, Alexandra Zeigler, his niece, Chloe June MacNeill; his grandfather, Samuel MacNeill; his aunt, Nancy Eagan; and many other extended family members, colleagues and friends. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Samuel's life at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland, on Saturday, May 4th at 4 PM. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 prior to the service. A gathering for friends and family will follow at the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church in Holliston at 5 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made to The American Diabetes Association. www.diabetes.org.
