Obituary

Roy Capra, 87, of Ashland, Massachusetts and recently Warren, Rhode Island, died on the morning of 7/2/12 in his sleep, while on a salmon fishing trip in New Brunswick, Canada. Roy was the beloved husband of Glo Capra; they were married for 62 years. Roy is also survived by his three daughters: Cindy Capra and her husband Mike Seward, Judy Capra-Petercuskie and her husband John Petercuskie, and Nancy Jones. Roy was exceptionally proud of his six grandchildren, Shane and Erin, Curt and Caylin, Jesse and Aly. Roy also leaves his beloved sister Rita Dinunzio, brother-in-law Joe, and nephew Michael. Roy was always the life of any party and will be missed by many friends and extended family, young and old. Roy was the son of Rico and Rena Capra, long time residents of Framingham, Massachusetts and original partners in the Framingham Baking Company. Roy served as a staff sergeant, radio operator and navigator in the 5th Air Force15th Reconnaissance Bomb Squadron in the Pacific during World War II. After leaving the service, Roy joined the Perini Corporation where he worked for 39 years, retiring in 1989 as a Project Manager. He was a long term member of the Carpenter's Union Local 475. He often regaled family and friends with tales of working for his last 11 years with Perini on the construction of the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant. He lived in many parts of the country, and traveled often to Italy to visit relatives. To say that Roy was an avid sportsman would be an understatement. Roy loved hunting, fishing, tracking, and most of all the trips he took to the hunting camp in Township 35, Maine, built by his father and friends in 1925. Roy was an active member of many hunting societies and traveled the world pursuing his love of guns and fishing in Africa, Scotland, Italy, Canada and all over the States, including Alaska. He also leaves behind his faithful old Brittany Spaniel, Buddy, the last in a long series of loyal hunting dogs. Roy's family will be honoring Roy's wishes by making a pilgrimage to his hunting camp in Maine. Roy remarked to many a friend that he wasn't leaving this earth until he was no longer able to enjoy his hunting and fishing in Maine. He wanted his ashes spread in the winds of his quarry. A funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday morning July 10th in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty Street, Ashland at 9:00 AM. Interment will be private and take place at a later date. Calling hours will be held from the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland on Monday evening July 9th from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Roy's honor to Ruffed Grouse Society (Wildlife conservation) or Habitat for Humanity.
