Obituary

Ronald Crane Davis, 91, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday June 6, 2012. He was the son of the late Harry and Olive (Bassett) Davis, born on July 19, 1920 in Framingham and educated in Framingham and Ashland schools. A veteran of WWII, he served in Army Intelligence in Miami, Rio de Janeiro, and Houlton, ME. Before and after serving in WWII he was a member of the Ashland Police Department, as was his father. Upon graduation from Northeastern University in 1949, he taught and coached athletics in schools in Danville, Hardwick, and Vergennes, Vermont before returning to teach and coach at Ashland High School in 1954. In 1956 he accepted a position at Northeastern, where he was a professor of Art History until his retirement in 1984. During his tenure at the University he served with Prof. Lloyd Skiffington as official statistician for the Northeastern Huskies football program; as a member of the Faculty Senate; and as advisor for the Husky Key and TKE fraternity. He served on many Ashland town committees; including the School Committee, Library Trustees, Directions, Council on Aging, Town By-Laws, and Arts Council. He was especially proud of his work in helping preserve the historical town records for the Town Clerk's Office. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Harriet (Gates) Davis and his son, Brian Davis, both of Ashland. He was predeceased by his son Edson (Ted) Davis. He also leaves Brian's daughters; Katherine and Rebecca; and Ted's widow Pauline and their children, John, Jacoby, Jasmine and Jordan. At Ronald's request there will be no services or visiting hours. A memorial service may be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to RRI to support Elm Hill Center, 1 Pickar Rd.
