Richard R.
Thistle
Mar 26, 1944 — Dec 16, 2025
Ashland
Richard Thistle, 81, of Upton, formerly of Millis and Harwich, beloved husband, father, Papa, and friend, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family, on December 16, 2025. Born on March 26, 1944, in Framingham, MA, he was the son of the late Edwin and Josephine (Carnaroli) Thistle.
Rick grew up and attended schools in Framingham, MA, later earning his bachelor's degree in Industrial Management from Northeastern University. He spent many years working within the manufacturing industry, with roles at General Electric, Digital Equipment Corp., and most recently, Electrochem Solutions. His career provided him the opportunity to travel extensively around the world, an experience he greatly cherished, especially his travels throughout Asia and Europe. He was a proud member of the Air Force Reserve. He was also a longtime member of the Columbus Club in Framingham, where you'd often find him playing bocce and cards with his friends.
Rick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann (Giombetti) Thistle. Rick and Mary Ann met as teenagers during their families' vacations on Cape Cod. They started their life together in Framingham and moved to Millis in 1973, where they raised their family. He leaves behind his daughters, Tracy Bodio and her husband, Robert Jr., Aimie Burack and her husband, Josh; and Dr. Tara Brigham. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren: Ryan, Alexander, and Isabella Bodio; Madison, Lauren, and Justin Burack; and Abigail, Catherine, and Elizabeth Brigham. Rick also leaves behind his sister, Terri Horrigan, and his niece and nephews, Kelly Heuer, Shawn Horrigan, and Joe Horrigan.
Rick loved being with family and friends and was a natural storyteller, always ready with a smile, a joke, and his quick wit. He enjoyed golfing and took great pleasure in cooking for his family and for anyone lucky enough to be nearby. He cherished his time spent on the Cape, especially at his cottage at Chase's Ocean Grove. Above all else, Rick found his greatest joy in his grandchildren, whether he was playing cards with them, entertaining them with stories of his youth, or being there to support and celebrate them in everything they did.
We are grateful to the dedicated medical team and staff who cared for Rick with kindness and compassion at MGH Yawkey Center and UMass Memorial Medical Center.
