Richard E. Robidoux, 85, longtime resident of Framingham passed away peacefully on Fri June 3rd after a period of declining health. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brookfield, MA he was the son of the late Ernest and Rachel (Gaudette) Robidoux and husband to his wife of 43 years Pamela (Leary) Robidoux. Richard graduated from Clark University where he excelled on the baseball team. He would later serve the Framingham Community as a past president of Pop Warner Football. Richard was known for his entrepreneurial spirit and was the owner and operator of United Chevrolet of Worcester, retiring in 1979. More than anything, Richard loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife; he is survived by six children; Richard II and his wife Kathryn; Stephen and his wife Susan; Jeffrey; Gregory and his wife Patricia; Lisa Borden and her husband Jonathan; and Jennifer Scianna and her husband Robert; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one sister, Eleanor Morrison. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law Barbara Galli. He is predeceased by his first wife, Sylvia (Hatton) Robidoux.
Known to friends and family as "Dick," he was caring, hard-working, dedicated, and loved life. He loved spending time with his family, challenging others to a game of pitch, making people laugh with his humor and sharp wit, and cheering on Boston sports teams - especially the Patriots. In his younger years he loved playing tennis, racquetball, basketball, and volleyball.
Dick excelled in his high school years at Brookfield High School as both a student and an athlete. He was an integral part of the Class C Championship basketball team, scoring 19 points to win the Tri-State title with a score of 39-38. He also holds a place as a 'high scorer' in the Clark basketball archives for scoring 28 points in the 1954 tournament, helping to lead his team in an upset victory, securing Brookfield its first and only Clark Tournament Championship. He was also involved in many clubs including Vice-President of Student Council, Honor Society, and co-editor of the yearbook. He graduated in 1954 as Valedictorian. He went on to play baseball at Clark University, where his abilities earned him an invite to tryout for the Washington Senators baseball team.
A funeral service will be celebrated Thursday June 9th at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA with burial to follow in Vernon Grove Cemetery in Milford, MA. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 8:30-11:30am prior to the service in the funeral home. Donations in Richard's name may be made to Baypath Humane Society, 500 Legacy Farms North, Hopkinton, MA 01748.
