Obituary

Richard E. Hathaway, 89, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2019. Known to all as Dick, he was born on June 20, 1929 in New Bedford, MA and was the son of the late Edwin R. and Velma S. Hathaway. He is predeceased by his sister, Jean.

Dick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn E. Hathaway. He also leaves behind his daughter, Linda Hathaway Tobin and her husband Tim of Hopkinton, MA and their children, Caroline, Ryan, and Halle, and his son Richard E. Hathaway II and his wife Johanna of Lincoln Park, NJ and their children, Jonathan and David, as well as many nieces and nephews.    Dick graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and subsequently moved to New Jersey where he met and married Marilyn in 1955. They designed and built their home together and raised their family in Mendham Township, NJ. After living in that home for 59 years, they moved to Brightview Senior Living in Randolph, NJ in 2016.

While in NJ, Dick began his career working for larger firms prior to starting his own company specializing in bakery equipment design. His favorite activities included sailing on the weekends and spending time with family and friends. His quick wit and humor will be sincerely missed.

Dick and Marilyn moved to Fairview Estates in Hopkinton, MA in December of 2018, where Marilyn currently resides.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, June 22nd from 2:00-6:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA. Burial services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, MA Chapter, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
