Raymond S. Kennedy, 75 died peacefully with his family at his side at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester, MA after a lengthy period of declining health. He was born on April 1938 in Framingham, MA to parents Walter H. Kennedy and Rose (Taraska) Kennedy. He was a graduate of Framingham High School Class of 1956 and then proudly served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps. He later went on to work in the transportation and trucking industry, working for the former Branch Motor Express, Holmes Transportation, Saint Johnsbury, and retiring from the Yellow Freight Corporation in 1996. Ray was a proud member of the Teamsters Local 170. He is survived by his daughter, Katie Marquedant and her husband David of Shrewsbury, MA, Sally Kennedy and partner Glenn Persinger of Hot Springs, AK, Nancy Konca and her husband Mitchel of Suffern, NY. He will be especially missed by grandsons Timothy and Andrew Marquedant of Shrewsbury, MA, sister Joan Malley of Marshfield, MA and his loving and devoted companion of many years, Mary Cella of Ashland, MA. Many of Ray's favorite memories included traveling and spending time with family and friends. Ray spent his retirement years as a doting and loving grandfather who never missed an opportunity to attend one of his grandson's basketball or baseball games. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 4th at 9:00am in St. Cecelia's Church in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Friends of the Framingham Heart Study, 73 Mt. Wayte Ave. Framingham, MA 01702 as Ray was a proud generational participate of this important research.
