Rayburn C. Mortensen 69, of Ashland passed away Friday, January 19th after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Mary (Penney) Mortensen and they had been married 45 years. Born in Berlin, NH, he was the son of the late Theodore and Avis (Bissett) Mortensen. He had lived in Ashland since 1965. Mr. Mortensen was a graduate of Berlin High School in Berlin, NH and had worked at General Motors Corporation in Framingham for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He was a veteran serving his country with the United States Navy. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann Glaser and her husband Scott of Wake Forest, NC, Susan Robie and her husband Keith of Ashland; one son, Ronald Mortensen and his wife Diane of Ashland; three brothers: Wayne Mortenson of Amelia, FL, Kenneth Mortensen of Jefferson, NH, and Gary Mortensen of Berlin, NH; and seven grandchildren: Rebecca Glaser, Dillon Glaser, Nicole Glaser, Ryan Robie, Curtis Robie, Travis Robie, and Hunter Robie. He was the father of the late Rayburn C. Mortensen Jr. and the brother of the late Gloria Cellupica and Ronald Mortensen. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street in Ashland with interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening in the funeral home from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Ashland Emergency Fund, PO Box 112, Ashland, MA 01721.
