Obituary

Ray C. Paul, 80, passed away peacefully after a difficult but brief battle with an aggressive cancer. He spent his last weeks surrounded by family, telling stories, watching old movies, and listening to music. Born in Boston in 1945, Ray spent his early childhood in Newton, MA until moving to Framingham, MA in the 1950s where he met friends he would have for life. He met his wife, Marsha, in 1962 at Framingham High School and they married in 1965 just before Ray enlisted in the US Air Force. Ray was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, CA where Marsha joined him and their first child, David, was born. Following his honorable discharge from the military in 1970, they returned to Framingham and shortly after had their second child, Julie. They later settled in Natick where they raised their two children and several family dogs. In 1994 Ray and Marsha moved to Upton, MA.

Ray worked as a printer and owned his own print shop for many years in Westborough, MA. After retiring from printing, he worked as a custodian at Memorial Elementary School in Upton where he enjoyed the daily antics of lots of little kids and received numerous handmade notes that always brought him a laugh. Ray was a great storyteller and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was involved for many years with the American Legion, serving as a Board Member and enjoying the company of his many friends. Ray and Marsha were married for 54 years before Marsha predeceased him in 2019.

Ray is survived by his two children, David Paul of Upton, and Julie Paul Brown (husband Tim Brown) of Hopkinton, MA as well as his sister, Nancy Shevlin (husband Barry Shevlin) of Miami, FL. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Megan Paul, Abigail Paul, and Lily Paul Brown, as well as nephews Josh and Jake Shevlin and much extended family.

A remembrance service will be held Saturday March 21st at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.  Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 2:00-4:00pm prior to the service in the funeral home.  Ray will be interred with Marsha at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA in a private ceremony.
