Obituary

Patricia J. (Dunn) Cavaretta, 89 of Ashland, MA formerly of Acton and Waltham passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Saint Patrick's Manor Nursing Home after eight weeks of declining health. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Dunn and Bernice M. (Furlotte) Dunn.

Born in Herkimer, NY, "Patty / or Pat" which she was best known for, attended St. Charles High School in Waltham. In the 1950s, she was employed at the Waltham Watch Company as a clerk. In 1962, she received her 100 hour pin for volunteer service at the former Waltham Hospital.  Later, as a single mom, with three young children, Pat would embark on two longstanding careers in waitressing and house cleaning. Her latter 40 year vocation, would become a source of pride and independence from the late 1960s to well into her healthy and active senior years.

In 1958, Pat, along with her older sister Joyce, were forced to become caretakers for their beloved 50 year old mother, Bernice who eventually succumbed to uterine cancer. This difficult event for any family would influence 24 year old Patricia's faith and concern for others until the day she passed away.  Instead of withdrawing into despair, that difficult chapter in her life instilled in Pat the love of family and friends; altruism towards her neighbors and gratitude for blessed health. She would follow in Bernice's footsteps and honor her mother's memory with love. Her preferred saint to pray to was Saint Jude, but lived by the words, and more importantly, the actions in the prayer of Saint Francis.

Pat is survived by her son Dean J. Cavaretta of Boxborough. Her daughter Kim M. Puntini and son in law, Michael Puntini of Ashland. Her beloved sister and closest partner in life Joyce Bourgeois formerly of Acton and now Littleton. Her best friend for well over 70 years Eileen Giroux of Framingham and six grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter Donna Ferrante and brother William Dunn.

Patricia was "Aunt Pat" to her sister Joyce's 6 children and their significant others. She was their dependable friend, sounding board, and ultimate cheerleader for their growing families. Finally, in all the places Patricia lived on her own she made friends with most neighbors. The family wants to thank all of the well wishes received during this time.
