Obituary

Myrle Adele (Westover) Cunis, of Ashland, age 57, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 8, 2023, after being stricken ill at her home. She was the daughter of the late Walter G. Westover and the late Lillian A. Hayes, and the granddaughter of the late Walter and Muriel Westover. Myrle was born in Helena, Montana, and grew up Clancy, Montana. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Montana State University. She moved to Massachusetts to become a nanny. She joined Wellesley Park Assembly of God Church, where she met her husband, Michael A. Cunis. They celebrated thirty-five happy years of marriage this past spring.

Myrle loved spending time with her cherished family and wonderful circle of friends near and far, and greatly enjoyed visiting and exploring her home state of Montana. Myrle was a faithful Christian woman and member of the Faith Community Church in Hopkinton. She proudly served the Ashland community for many years, working concessions at Ashland sports events, helping Boys Scouts with their Eagle Scout projects, and she was the creator of the Puzzle Escape Room at the Ashland VFW. Myrle worked most of her career as a bookkeeper and was employed at Dr. Dental in Framingham. She previously worked for many years at the Warren Center in Ashland.

Besides her husband, she leaves behind her beloved children, Nicole C. Welsh and her husband Jeffrey of Somerset, MA, and Daniel W. Cunis of Boston; her brother, Oliver Westover of Helena, MT; her mother-in-law, Mary Ann Cunis of Ashland; her brother-in-law, David W. Cunis and his wife Michelle of Holliston; two nephews, Matthew and Brendan; her aunts Arlieta Holshue, Carolyn Woodward, and Lorretta Strobel, all of Montana; and her cousins, Kim Weiss, Kevin Holshue, Kelly Holshue, Ken Holshue, Kelley Woodward-Quick, Chine Strobel, and Rick Strobel. She leaves behind many wonderful friends, especially Kristine Lowell of Hopkinton.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday Dec. 19th at 10:00am in Faith Community Church, 146 East Main St. Hopkinton, MA with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland.  Calling hours will be held Monday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashland VFW, 311 pleasant Street Ashland, Ma 01721.
