Obituary

Michael J. Naughton, 68, of Framingham, a decorated Army Veteran, died Monday, June 11th peacefully at his home after battling cancer. Michael was born and raised in Spiddal, Co. Galway, Ireland and attended the Galway City Tech. School and worked as a telephone exchange repairman for the Galway Post Office/Phone Company before he came to the United States in 1963. In 1965 Michael enlisted in the US Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division in the Dominican Republic and Vietnam Wars. He received a Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Parachute Badge. Sgt. Naughton was honorably discharged in 1968 and again in 1971 from the Reserves. Michael worked at New England Telephone Co. (now Verizon) as an equipment installer technician until he retired in 1997; he was with the company for 25+ years. Michael was the son of the late John and Ellen (McAleenan) Naughton and brother of the late James N. Naughton of Framingham, MA. He is survived by his wife Donna (Montani Sullivan) Naughton of Milton, MA; three brothers John P. (and wife Dolores) Norton of Millville, MA, Peter E. Naughton of Grafton, MA and Kevin P. (and wife Lois) Naughton of McKinney, TX; many special nieces and nephews, cousins, step-sons Joseph and Daniel Sullivan and step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday June 21, 2012 in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland.
