Mavis Garino, 91, formerly of Port Orange, FL, and North Conway, NH, went to be with the Lord Jesus on July 21, 2025. Mavis was born on April 5, 1934, in Ecclesall, York, England. She was the daughter of the late Walter Tate and Florence (Reed) Tate of Sheffield, England. Mavis emigrated to the United States in 1955, settling in Needham, MA. She moved to Ashland shortly after starting a family and ultimately retired to Florida in 1994.
Mavis enjoyed a long and successful career working in clothing retail and was a fashion model at the Mary McElroy clothing store in Framingham in the late 1960s and 70s. She became the owner of Alda's Corset Shop in downtown Framingham in the 1980s, where she was well known for her specialized fitting in women's attire. Mavis was an avid golfer in her retirement years at the Spruce Creek Fly-In Community of Port Orange, FL. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mavis is predeceased by her first husband, Frances C. Rohmer Jr.; her beloved husband of 33 years, Vincent E. Garino; her sister, Brenda Parsley; and her brother, Geoffrey Tate. She is also predeceased by her stepson, Jeffrey Garino; stepson-in-law, Raymond Demeritt; and granddaughter, Julie Demeritt.
Mavis is survived by her sons, Carlton Rohmer; Mark Rohmer and his wife Lisa; and Scott Rohmer and his wife Stephanie; stepchildren Lana Demeritt, Vincent Garino and his wife Katie, and Jeffrey Garino and his wife Patty; along with 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sat. July 26th at 11:00am at the Connect Church – Framingham Campus, 80 Beacon St. Framingham, MA.
Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Health Care Center, 97 Bethany Rd. Framingham, MA 01702. The family wishes to give special thanks to the Bethany staff for their wonderful and loving care.
