Obituary

Mary E. (Smith) Steen, 87, of Ashland died peacefully Monday, November 6, 2006 in the company of many of the friends she knew and loved, at Bethany Healthcare in Framingham. She was the wife of the late William Steen of Ashland. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Smith, and lived in South Boston until moving with her family to Ashland in 1957. Prior to her retirement, Mary was a tax accountant for Dennison Manufacturing Co. of Framingham for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Ashland Council on Aging and a member of St. Cecilia's Church. Following her retirement, she enjoyed being a member of the Ashland Council on Aging and traveling with the many friends whom she met through her time spent on the Council. Mary is survived by her sisters, Agnes Gilpin of Waltham, and Dorothy Manning of Randolph; her daughter, Mary Lou Hunt and her husband Larry of Ashland, her sons William Steen and his wife Dorothy of King, NC, and Patrick Steen and his wife Celia of Milford; seven grandchildren, Richard Sullivan of Upton, Brenda Steen of Shirley, Patrick Steen of Hudson, Shannon Steen, Travis Steen and Nikki Phipps all of NC, and Daniel Steen of CT; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Francis Smith of South Boston. Calling hours will be held at the Matarese Funeral Home, (www.mataresefuneral.com), 325 Main Street in Ashland on Thursday November 9th from 4 to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty Street in Ashland on Friday at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Bethany Healthcare, 97 Bethany Road, Framingham, MA 01702.
