Mary J. Spavold, age 71, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, resilience, strength, and unconditional love.

Mary was born in 1954 in Watertown, Massachusetts, to the late Joanne (Lyons) Arbogast. She graduated from Norwood High School and, in 1974, married Ronald Spavold. Together, they shared more than 40 years of marriage, building a life filled with family, love, challenges, laughter, and countless memories.

Mary and Ronald made their home in Franklin, Massachusetts, where Mary created a warm and loving household centered around her family. She was the heart of her home and took great pride in making sure those she loved were cared for and supported. Through both good times and difficult ones, Mary faced life with remarkable strength and determination. She worked tirelessly for her family, often putting their needs before her own.

For more than 25 years, Mary built a career with TJX Companies in retail management. She was known for her strong work ethic, determination, and commitment, giving her all to her work for as long as she was able. Perseverance was simply part of who Mary was.

Mary also knew how to enjoy life's simple pleasures. She loved beautiful flowers, especially lilies, a good Chinese meal, and spending time at the beach. But nothing brought her greater happiness than her children and grandchildren. Her family was her greatest source of pride and joy. She celebrated their accomplishments, supported them through challenges, and loved them deeply and without reservation.

Mary was a devoted wife and loving mother to Michelle Stokes and her husband, Jason Stokes, of Milford, Massachusetts; Amy Demers of Medfield, Massachusetts; and Heather Spavold and her longtime partner, David Beihn, of Ashland, Massachusetts.

She was a cherished grandmother to Tyler Demers, Joseph Mullineaux, and Jason, Brooke, and Madison Stokes. Her grandchildren brought immense joy to her life, and she treasured the time she spent with each of them.

She is also survived by her siblings, John Paul Arbogast and his longtime partner, Ruth Frascone, of Franklin; Robert Arbogast and his wife, Brenda, of Uxbridge; Christopher Arbogast and his wife, Lisa, of Grafton; and Sandra Smith of Clearwater, Florida. She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Joanne (Lyons) Arbogast.

Mary will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering devotion to her family, remarkable strength, and the love she gave so freely. While her family wishes they had more time with her, they find comfort in the many memories she leaves behind and in knowing that her love will continue through her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland, Massachusetts. A Memorial Celebration and luncheon will immediately follow at “The Home in Newton,” 381 Dudley Road, Newton, Massachusetts.
