Margaret Theresa (Vallavanti) Heenan, 97, of Ashland, Mass. and Yarmouthport, Mass., passed away quietly in her sleep early in the morning of Friday, 23 August, 2013, at Liberty Commons, Chatham, Mass. Born in Ashland Mass. on 19 April, 1916, she was the oldest child of Lodovico and Amelia (Bertoloni) Vallavanti,. She had a sister, Elvera (Collins) and two brothers, Edward and Charles. She lived in Ashland all her life until she moved with her Husband, Francis "Moose" Heenan, to Cape Cod in 1989. Margaret graduated from Ashland High School and went to work in the Telechron Plant in Ashland. She and Francis, who also worked for Telechron, married in 1943. They honeymooned in a blacked out New York City that, to Margaret, was too scary. They came home early, and moved into the Heenan family home on Summer Street, next to Stone Park. Margaret and "Moose" had four children. Michael Francis, The twins John Richard and Kevin Thomas, and Margaret "Pegi" Mary. Margaret was involved with many social organizations in Ashland that included St Cecelia's Catholic church, her local Bridge Club and was well known throughout the town. In the early 1960's she decided that she needed to be out of the house while her children were at school, and what better way to keep track of them was to work in the Ashland High School Cafeteria on Concord Street. She did such a fine job that soon she became the Leader of the High School Lunch program and after the Retirement of her good friend, Bertha Hassard, became the full time Supervisor for the entire Ashland School Lunch Program. Margaret loved being with her family and made sure that they visited Cape Cod each Summer. She enjoyed a brisk game of Bridge, Painting, laughing, visiting with friends and had a wonderful voice when singing to her children or herself while playing her piano in the Living Room of their home. Moving to Yarmouthport, on Cape cod, was a dream come true for both Margaret and "Moose". Their Cape home was always filled with family and friends. She lived there, happily, until March of this year. Always wanting to have become a Nurse and after her husband passed, Margaret became a volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. She was very active in this Organization, deeply involved in the raising of thousands of dollars for the Hospital and was almost a permanent "Concierge" at the front desk for over 15 years. She also volunteered for and manned the Emergency Blood Drive, at the Hospital, that was held after the despicable and cowardly attack on 9/11. Margaret is survived by her oldest son, Michael and his wife Marie (Tartaglia), who lived with her in Yarmouthport, her daughter Margaret "Pegi" Heenan of Randolph, Mass., her Grand Children, John, Mary, Amy, Kevin, Rachel and Christina, and five great grandchildren. Her husband, "Moose", passed in November of 1994, and her twin sons passed in 1992 (John Richard) and 2002 (Kevin Thomas). Calling hours are from 6PM to 8PM at Matarese Funeral home, 325 Main Street, Ashland, MA, on Tuesday, 27 August, 2013. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Wednesday, 28 August, 2013, at St Cecilia's Catholic Church, 54 Esty Street, Ashland, MA.
