Malcolm H. Cheever, 84, longtime resident of Ashland passed away Fri. Dec. 15th after a period of declining health.  He was the son of the late Ralph and Helena (Crossman) Cheever and husband to Ann (Horne) Cheever for 61 years. Malcolm was the owner and operator of Ashland Lumber Company which was founded by his parents Ralph and Helena.  He was an active member of the Ashland community, serving as a former member of the zoning board, historical commission, Ashland Library building committee, Kiwanis Club, and Ashland Youth Baseball – Babe Ruth League.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children; Laureen Robinson and her husband Rick of Ashland; Brian Cheever of Holliston; and Holly Townsend and her husband James of Ashland; five grandchildren; Danielle Morgan and her husband Marc; Nicole Hero and her husband Wes; Daniel, Shelby, and Lydia Cheever; and Erin Townsend; and three great-grandchildren; Cam D. Morgan, Jack D. Hero, and Desirae Wein.  He was the father of the late Todd Cheever.

Calling hours will be held Monday Dec. 18th from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland and will conclude with a remembrance service at 7:00 PM.  A private interment service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Friends of the Ashland Public Library, 66 Front St. Ashland, MA  01721
