Lucille Rita Hakansson, 90, died peacefully on September 4, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Sten Hakansson. A lifelong resident of Ashland, Lucille was the daughter of Emma and George Sullivan, and sister of the late Vincent, Richard, and Paul Sullivan. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Parish, and had a strong commitment to her faith. Lucille was always interested in others, and was a consistently caring and generous friend. An avid Red Sox fan, who rarely missed a televised game, Lucille took great pride in the Reverse of the Curse. In addition, she watched the Sunday morning talk shows, always welcoming a lively discussion of politics with friends and family. Lucille had a great sense of humor, and she loved music. She had a beautiful voice, and could often be heard singing her favorites as she worked around the house. Lucille devoted her life to home and family. She is survived by four children: Jean MacLean (Ken); Margaret Hakansson; Judith Hay; and Carl Hakansson (Janet). She is also survived by three grandchildren: Kelly Montgomery (John); Greg MacLean (Jeri); and Kristen Hay; and a great-grandson, Lukas MacLean. There will be a calling hour at Matarese Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 10th from 6:00-7:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7:00PM at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 11, at 9 a.m. In appreciation of the exceptional care their mother received, the family requests that any donations may be made to Countryside Nursing Home (153 Winter Street, Framingham 01702) for enrichment activities to benefit the residents.
