Obituary

Lorraine (Stigas) Hickey, 80 passed away Saturday April 15th at her home after a period of declining health. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Norkus) Stigas and wife of the late James R. Hickey who died in 2014. Lorraine attended Hyde Park High School Class of 1960 and Boston State College Class of 1966 receiving a BS in Education. After graduation she worked as a math textbook editor and went on to spend some time teaching. She ultimately worked as a bookkeeper for many years until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Cecilia's Church in Ashland and volunteered with Birthright in Framingham for many years. She was active with arts and crafts and used those talents to make rosaries for the Archdiocese of Boston and to knit hats which she donated to shelters and hospitals. She adored her grandchildren and especially loved to see them play sports. She was their biggest fan.

Mrs. Hickey is survived by her son, Steven Hickey and his wife Corinne of Ashland and their children, Matthew, Allison, and Erin, and her sister, Mary Stigas of Braintree, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Alexander and Edward Stigas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tue. April 25th at 11:00am in St. Cecilia's Parish, 54 Esty St. Ashland, MA. Visiting hours will be held Tue. from 9:00-10:30am prior to the funeral mass at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lorraine's name to St. Francis House, P.O. Box 120499, Essex Station, Boston, MA 02112-0499 – www.stfrancishouse.org
