Kathleen Jean Kinz, 49, of Southborough, passed away in her home on Thursday, April 7, 2011. Born at Ft. Belvoir, VA, she was the daughter of Jean (Carey) Kinz, of Southborough, and Robert and Beatta Kinz, of Framingham. A life-long resident of Southborough, Kathy worked at Fay School for a number of years and was also a local yoga instructor. Kathy was an avid athlete and, in 2001, captured the women's national distance title at the Great Floridian Triathlon; that same year, she competed in the world championship Hawaii Ironman Triathlon where she received the Isuzu Go Further Award in recognition of her achievements. Kathy was known throughout the community as a caring and compassionate person, always willing to help anyone and everyone in need. In addition to her parents, Kathy is survived by her five children: Jennifer (Smith) Whittier, of Michigan; Kelly, Kathryn, and Jacqueline Smith, all of Southborough; and Robert Smith of Marlborough; and two grandchildren, Hannah and Emily. She is also survived by two brothers, Steven Kinz of Marlborough, and Douglas Kinz, of Framingham, one sister, Susan (Kinz) Maggioni, of Wellesley, and her former husband, Gregg Smith, of Marlborough. Calling hours will be held Monday, April 11, 2011, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland. A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 240 Hemenway St. in Marlborough with private burial to follow.
