Obituary

Karen Ann (Guy) Palinkas, 70 of Sebastian Florida passed away peacefully at home with her daughter Jennifer and her two beloved fur babies, Dalton and Tiegan, by her side on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Born in Framingham, MA, on June 19, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Lou Guy. She was raised in Ashland, MA.

Karen’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and the endless joy she brought to those who knew her. A graduate of Ashland High School in 1974, Karen carried the spirit of her hometown close to her heart, even as she embarked on adventures far and wide. Karen’s love for the ocean was profound, and she often dreamed of living on a houseboat, surrounded by the gentle sway of the waves. Her passion for travel took her to many beautiful places, creating memories with her sister, daughter, and friends. She also loved the thrill of visiting casinos all over the world. She treasured the moments spent with her family and friends, creating unforgettable memories.

Karen’s warmth left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She moves on leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and a profound kindness that time cannot dim.

Karen has worked many different jobs over the years but most recently she has worked for H&R Block for the last 15+ years. In addition to her full-time work, for over a decade, Karen opened her heart and home to care for adults with special needs, treating everyone who crossed her threshold like family.

Karen is survived by her cherished daughter, Jennifer Merchant, and husband William of Sebastian, Florida; her twin sister Kathleen Guy Gilbert of Douglas; She was a loving Grammy to Jacob Merchant, Tyler Merchant, Gunner Merchant and Sloane Merchant all of Burrillville, RI; her great-grandson Brantley Merchant; her cousins Susan Rojas, Michael Anderson and Kathy Roberts as well as her nieces and nephews.

Karen is predeceased by her parents Edward and Mary Lou Guy. Her brother Stephen, and two of her beloved children Edward and Nichole Palinkas.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held Saturday, November 7,2026, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.
