Obituary

Julio Alexander Colavita, 98, of Ashland passed away Wednesday May 20, 2026.  Born in Milford, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (DeFilippis) Colavita.  Julio is the husband of Louise (Pellegrini) Colavita and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  He received a degree in mathematics from Northeastern University, and worked as a computer systems manager for Raytheon until retiring in 1992.  He enjoyed teaching, serving as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Northeastern University and Fitchburg State College, as well as serving as a substitute mathematics teacher in the Town of Ashland.  He also assisted with collections at St. Cecelia's 7am mass for many years.  Mr. Colavita served his country honorably during the Korean War from 1951-53 and was awarded two Bronze Stars.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Mark Colavita of Altadena, CA, Christopher Colavita and his wife Donna of Ashland, and Jeffrey Colavita and his wife Julie of Westford, and six grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler, Nicholas, Michael, Kristen, and Vincent.  He was the brother of the late P. Marie Colavita of Milford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday May 26th at 11:00am at St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty Street, Ashland, MA with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford.  Visiting hours will be held Monday from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.
