Ashland- Joyce Mary Novak, 72, died peacefully Thursday morning, October 2, 2008, at JML Care Center in Falmouth surrounded by her beloved children. She was the widow of John Lawrence Novak. She is survived by her three children: Christopher Novak of Mashpee and his wife Susanne, Karen Gates of Ashland and her husband Kenneth, and Kevin Novak of Duanesburg, N.Y. and his wife Elizabeth; a grandson Brendan Gates, and her loving mother Verona Bonneville of Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. Joyce was born in Cornwall, Ontario and attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Montreal, Quebec. After nursing school she moved to Santa Monica, California to begin her nursing career. It was here that she met her husband. After moving to Massachusetts, Joyce attended Regis College, Framingham State College, and Northeastern Univerisity, ultimately earning a Master's Degree in Medical Records Administration. She then worked for years as a peer reviewer for MassPro. Upon retiring Joyce devoted her time to family and friends. She enjoyed singing in her church choir, attending her book and garden clubs, and traveling with family and friends. She touched so many lives and the loss will be great to those who knew her. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 6th at 9:00am in St. Cecilia's Church in Ashland with burial to follow in Wadsworth Cemetery in Sudbury.
