Joyce L. Davis, 83, of Harrisville, RI; formerly of Milford, MA; died Sept. 14th while doing one of her favorite things, shopping. Joyce was born in Cedar Rapids, IA Dec. 15, 1932 the daughter of the late Robert G. and Martha (Wilkinson) VanNess and is survived by her husband of 62 years Charles J Davis. She leaves behind her children; Robert Davis of RI; Jill LaFrance and her husband Dale of Millville, MA; and Joy Young and her husband David of Framingham, MA; six grandchildren; Kristen Wickensimer, Karin Desjardin, Kasey Davis, Steven LaFrance, Melissa LaFrance and Savannah Young; one great-grandson; Paxton Desjardin; two siblings; Carolyn Harris of Rapid City, SD; and Daryl VanNess and his wife Venita of FL; and her beloved cat Blondie.
Joyce graduated from high school in Las Cruces, NM after attending various schools around the country and while in Japan during the occupation. She spent time in Japan with her parents and time in Germany with her husband; her daughter Joy was born in Germany, son Robert was born in Kentucky, and her daughter Jill was born in Framingham, MA.
She was loved by all and could be found tending her garden or shopping in her retirement. She loved horticulture and was an avid member of the Milford Garden Club and enjoyed every moment of it. She retired from years of working as the head of the florist department for Keys of Milford along with a full career at Hills Food Service of Milford. Upon her retirement she could not sit still and volunteered at the Milford Senior Center and took full charge of all holiday and seasonal decorations for all to enjoy.
A funeral service will be held Sunday Sept. 18th at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland, MA. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2:00-4:00 PM prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, (cancer.org), PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123
