Josephine H. (Eckstrom) Cornell died Saturday night March 26, 2006 at her home in Ashland, after a long battle with cancer. She was the widow of Carl Eckstrom, who died in 1971, and of Eddie Cornell who died in 1992. Born in Wisconsin she was one of seven children of Francis and Hazel (O'Donnell) Roach. She operated gifts shops in Boston at the Prudential Center and Hancock Buildings for 20 years. She was a long time member of St. Cecilia's Parish in Ashland, and had an overwhelming faith that sustained her through her long illness. She loved spending time with her family and many friends. Especially receiving great joy from the time spent with her grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters Margaret Townsend and her husband Bob and Elaine Harbaugh and her husband Lawrence. She has two sons, Tony Eckstrom of Ashland and Joe Eckstrom and his wife Denise of Scituate; three daughters; Michelle Fenton and her husband Tim of Worcester, Lisa Eckstrom of Taunton, and Mary-Beth Melanson and her husband Tim of Ashland; and one daughter-in-law, Theresa Eckstrom of Worcester. In addition to her children she has nine grandchildren, Jessica and Colleen Guertin of Worcester; Hawley Eckstrom of Worcester; Joe, Brittany, Brooke and Taylor Eckstrom of Scituate; and Laura and Katie Melanson of Ashland. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 29th at 9:00am in St. Cecilia's Church in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland.
