Obituary

Joseph Peter Fleury, 87, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, at Odd Fellows Home in Worcester, Massachusetts after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Born on August 29, 1937, in Auburn, Massachusetts, Joe lived a life marked by devotion to family, service to country, and an adventurous spirit.

After serving his nation in the armed forces, Joe built a successful career at Raytheon, where he worked until his early retirement. This gave him the freedom to pursue his true passions: traveling the world and, most importantly, spending precious time with his family.

A loving father to Karen Kapinos and Marlene Gevry, Joe found particular joy in his role as grandfather to John Gino Kapinos and Ryan Joseph Veinotte. He took immense pride in creating opportunities for his grandsons to explore and experience the world, building lasting memories through shared adventures. His kitchen was often filled with the warmth of home-cooked meals, (meatballs) as he delighted in preparing food for those he loved.

Joe was a passionate Boston sports enthusiast whose dedication to his teams never wavered. His greatest love was reserved for his late wife, Mary Ann, who preceded him in death over 25 years ago. Their enduring romance remained close to his heart throughout the remainder of his life.  He was preceded in death by his beloved brother Tom Fleury, and leaves behind his lifelong best

friend and cousin Dickie Remillard, whose friendship spanned nearly nine decades. He is also survived by his daughters Karen and Marlene, his son-in-law Jim, and his beloved grandsons John Gino and Ryan, who will carry his legacy of love, generosity, and adventure forward.

A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday Dec. 28th at 11:00am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.  Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 9:00-10:30am prior to the service.
