Joseph L. Curran 62, formerly of Ashland and Framingham passed away Monday, November 27th at his home in Newton. Mr. Curran was the son of the late Robert G. and Laura (Langlois) Curran. Mr. Curran attended St. Stephen's School in Framingham and Framingham Vocational School. He was a 1970 graduate of Northeastern University. Mr. Curran was a free lance writer, author and playwright. One of his plays aired on PBS. He served his country as a jet mechanic in the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. While stationed in England he was the Light Middleweight Boxing Champion. Mr. Curran was also an accomplished gymnast who received a gold medal in rope climbing in the Baystate Competitions. Mr. Curran is survived by five brothers and one sister; Robert Curran of Hopedale, Kathryn Rackwal of Uxbridge, Michael Curran of Uxbridge, Christopher Curran of Millbury, Mark Curran of Marlborough, William Curran of Uxbridge; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be said on Monday, December 4th at 9:00 AM in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty Street in Ashland. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 3rd from 5 – 7:00 PM at the Matarese Funeral Home (www.mataresefuneral.com) 325 Main Street in Ashland.
