Joseph Louis Bodio, Jr; 79, of Ashland, passed away, Saturday, July 2nd, at the Oak Knoll Healthcare Center in Framingham. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Zanchi) Bodio. He was the husband of Virginia (Danese) Bodio, to whom he was married 55 years. A graduate of Framingham High School, Mr. Bodio worked as a union carpenter with Local 860 for many years as well as Perini Corp in Framingham and Cueroni Bros. Construction in Framingham working on many projects in the area including the construction of St. Tarcisius Church in Framingham. He was a resident of Ashland for 52 years. Affectionately known as Poppi Joe to his grandchildren and their friends, Mr. Bodio was an enthusiastic volunteer for many activities and sporting events helping with Little League Baseball and Precision Skating events among many other of his grandchildren's interests. Mr. Bodio served his country honorably with the Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Pendant with three bronze stars for actions taken during combat. He was truly a generous man who will be remembered by his family and friends as always giving of himself to others. In addition to his wife he is survived by, one daughter, Brenda Mallegni and her husband Marcello of Southborough; one sister, Judy Rossi of Reedville, VA; two grandchildren; Marcello Joseph Mallegni and Lea Teresa Mallegni; one nephew, Michael Dotson, one niece, Kristine Wagenaar and her husband Richard; numerous brother and sister-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Anthony Bodio. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 6th at 11:00am in St. Tarcisius Church in Framingham followed by cremation. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland.
