Obituary

John Lee Ward II, 46, of Ashland, passed away, Monday, Feb. 9th. Born in Gauley Bridge, WV; he was the son of John and Camay (Morris) Ward, and husband of Theresa (Luisi) Ward. John was a graduate of Western New England College in Springfield and later received his Masters of Science in Health Science from George Washington University. He was employed as a Physician Assistant - Certified, in the role of Clinical Director, Office of Medical Support and Oversight with the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natick. Previously, he worked in the field of emergency medicine with Faulkner Emergency Associates at Faulkner/Brigham & Woman's Hospital. He was a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants, and certified with the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise. John served his country honorably with the US Army from 1984 - 1991 as an Army medic and behavioral science specialist at Fort Dix, NJ and the US Army Natick Labs in Natick, MA. His accomplishments while serving were numerous and include: NCOIC-of the Honor Guard, Squad Leader, Assistant Platoon Sgt., Barracks Sgt., Master Fitness Trainer, and was a three time recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal. John was proud of his military service and very patriotic while on active duty and during his civilian life. He enjoyed traveling, movies, good food, and his family and friends. In addition to his wife and parents John is survived by, his son, John Lee Ward, III and his wife Shannon; two sisters; Jaci Barker and Tina Hudnall and her husband Marvin; one brother, Robert Ward, all of West Virginia, and many nieces and nephews who were special to him. A funeral service will be held Sat. Feb. 14th at 12:00PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 10:00-11:45am prior to the service. Donations may be made to the Boston Rescue Mission, PO Box 120069, Boston MA 02112
