John V. "Buddy" Mattson, Jr, 89, of Ashland, passed away, Tuesday, May 13th at Sunbridge of Milford. Born in Auburndale, MA; he was the son of the late John and Frances (Wilson) Mattson, and husband of the late Blanche (Cancellieri) Mattson. Mr. Mattson worked as a brakeman for the Boston & Maine Railroad, New York Central, and Conrail; retiring after 44 years of service. He was a 55 year member of the Masons – Dalhousie Lodge in Newtonville, MA; and for many years served, along with his wife, as foster parents to area children in need. Mr. Mattson is survived by four children: Karen Kearns of Upton, Donna Mattson of Whitinsville, Lisa Rock of Ashland, and Stephen Mattson of Falmouth; and three grandchildren; Elissa Mattson, and Jessica and Joseph Rock. He was the father of the late John Mattson III. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 15th at 11am in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. in Ashland with burial to follow in Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland.
