John Hendron, 93 of Framingham passed away Mon. June 11th in Framingham. Born in Chicago, IL he was the son of the late John and Edith (Stilts) Hendron and husband to the late Bernice (Yeats) Hendron who died in 2005. Mr. Hendron worked as a district sales manager for A.O. Smith Plumbing Supply Co. for 30 years before retiring in the early 80's. He was an accomplished professional square dance caller. He began as a singer in a country western band in the mid-west and developed a love of square dance calling before moving to New England in 1963. He traveled extensively to participate in numerous festivals and conventions and was adopted into the Square Dance Foundation of New England Hall of Fame in 2008.
Mr. Hendron served his country honorably in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He achieved the rank of Gunner's Mate Second Class, served with a PT Squadron, and participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was also awarded a Meritourious Badge for rescuing a downed pilot in rough seas.
He is survived by two sons, Gregory Hendron and his wife Linda of Gardner, MA, and Gary Hendron and his wife Carolyn of Medway, four grandchildren, Kristina Marie Hendron, John Michael Hendron, Christopher Lee Hendron, and Jessica Marie Hendron, four great-grandchildren, John and Lewis Hendron, Michael Leary and his beloved great-granddaughter the late Sophia Leary, brother, Robert Hendron and his wife Barbara of Manteno, IL, four beloved sister in laws, several nieces and nephews, dear friends, Chris and Linda Sauer, Joe and the late Lorraine Pellon, and Kathy Ramsey, and his longtime companion, Helen Vanderspool of Framingham. He was the brother of the late Lorraine Hendron.
A funeral service will be held Saturday June 16th at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA. There are no calling hours. Interment will take place at a later date in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123
