Framingham—John W. (aka "Jack" or "Bates") Breen, age 85, passed quietly and comfortably at home September 19th. He was the beloved husband of, and leaves behind, his wife of 64 years, Charlotte F. (Barclay) Breen.
Born in Newton, MA, the son of the late Dr. James and Gertrude Breen, he graduated from Newton High School in 1950. He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. He moved to Framingham in 1960 and took night classes at Harvard University. He started his own, successful manufacturer's representative agency and retired in 2000.
He was an avid golfer, played on the high school golf team, and was a member of the Framingham Country Club 43 years until his death.
He also served many years on the Board of Directors for the Natick Visiting Nurse Association.
He is survived by his son, John Jr. and his wife Maribeth, their daughters Kylah and Corey; his daughter Deborah, her two boys Jason and Christopher; and his son Martin, his wife Susan and their four boys, Kevin, Eric, Sean & Ryan.
He is also survived by three sisters; Gertrude Alfredson of Newton, MA; Helen Litchfield of Bedford, MA; and Marjorie Knuuti, of Searsport, ME; and brother Robert Breen of North Falmouth, MA. He was pre-deceased by siblings Marie Pope, Kathleen Johnston, and recently James Breen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday Sept. 24 th at 10:00am in St. George Parish, 74 School St, Framingham, MA 01701. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3:00-6:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, 300 Arnold Palmer Boulevard, Norton, MA 02766.
