John R. Benedict, 88, of Ashland passed away Sat. April 12, 2025, after a period of declining health. Born in Bennington, VT, he was the son of the late John and Bernice (Gleason) Benedict. John was the husband of Gayle (Stoddard) Benedict for 40 years. A graduate of Wentworth Institute Class of 1962, he worked as a construction estimator for Wallboard Construction in Natick until his retirement in 1993. John served his country honorably in the Navy from 1955-1959.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kristin Parabicoli and her husband Mark of Plymouth, and Kimberly Fletcher and her husband Gary of Whitinsville, three grandchildren, Allyson Brady and her husband Sean, Julia Parabicoli, and Maria Fletcher, and one great-granddaughter, Meadow Louise Brady.
John was the brother of the late Margaret Vadney and Ann Alberico. John also leaves behind his sister-in law Peggy Stoddard and her partner, Ronnie Cavatorta, along with brother-in-law James Stoddard and his wife, Sandra. John also leaves several nieces, nephews and friends.
John was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed all nature including animals, plants, birds and flowers. John completed several wood working projects during his lifetime. His most precious moments include spending time with family, especially his children, grandchildren and his nieces and nephews who visited from New York and Vermont.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wed. April 16th at 11:00am in St. Matthew's Parish, 26 Highland St. Southborough, MA with burial to follow Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland, MA. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St. Ashland, MA.
In lieu of flowers donations in John's name may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
