John Hudson Beaton, Jr., 80, formerly of Brooklyn, NY died August 11, 2011 in Natick, MA of lung cancer. Mr. Beaton was born in Cambridge, MA, on April 11, 1931 to John and Hilda (Hewitt) Beaton. He lived in Somerville, MA and after graduating from high school joined the Navy where he was stationed in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Beaton resided at several locations in NYC but since 1970 has resided in the historic Warren Place Workingman's Cottages built by Alfred Tredway White in 1878. Mr. Beaton is survived by his brothers Richard, recently of Framingham and Edward of Somerville and his sister Margaret Buchanan of Dover, DE. He is predeceased by his sister Thelma Midgette of Ashland, MA and his brother George of Arlington, MA. He was employed by IBM and the City of NY for many years. In his retirement he continued pursuing his love of cooking, classical music, gardening and theatre. He enjoyed spending time with his numerous multi-generational nieces and nephews, particularly his visits to Maine and New Hampshire. He traveled extensively and volunteered at God's Love and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music where he shared his sharp wit. Services are private.
