Jerald R. Weene, 70, formerly of Ashland, Hudson and New Hampton, N.H., passed away on the evening of the full moon, August 26th at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester. He was born on May 21, 1943, the first son of the late Abraham and Thelma Science Weene. Jerry was predeceased by his sister Anita Rapp and is survived by his sister Bonna Wieler and brother Michael Weene. He also leaves his children Rebekah, Ross and Alan, and his three beautiful grandchildren Zhalet, Zoila and Aria. Creative and eclectic in his work and life, and deeply inspired by music and the mountains, Jerry was a master luthier and an amazing musician. He devoted his life to the repair of stringed instruments and teaching his craft to others; to conducting and directing shows for local music theatre groups, and to sharing his love of classical, traditional and Irish music through participation in orchestras throughout New England. Jerry was an avid hiker who spent many summers as a camper and counselor in the woods and mountains of New Hampshire. He shared that love of the outdoors and his passion for the Appalachian Trail with those who joined him on his treks through the mountains. Always the teacher, Jerry was happiest when he was on the trail sharing his mountaineering skills with others. Jerry will be dearly missed by his family, colleagues and by the extensive circle of friends and musicians who knew him. Jerry's friends will gather to celebrate his love of music on October 27th at The Skellig Pub in Waltham, MA. Information regarding this event may be found at www.cdss.org.
