Jeanne Karshis Williams, 69, of Ashland passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 5, 2012, succumbing to a short but courageous battle with cancer. Jeanne grew up in Norwood, MA, attending St. Catherine's Parochial School and Norwood High School. She attended Bridgewater State College. She met her husband Guy while working for New England Telephone as a 1st line supervisor. She became a stay at home mom in 1981. Jeanne returned to work in 1988 as an assistant teacher in the Ashland Special Ed preschool, and then 16 years at the Nursery School at Temple Beth Am. Jeanne retired in 2006 but missed the children so much that she returned part time. Jeanne finally retired in 2008 to become a full time Grammie. In retirement, Jeanne was an active member of the community, heavily involved with the Ashland Senior Center and a proud member of the Greater Ashland Lions. Her enthusiasm and smiling face will be missed. She and her family thank everyone for their support over the past 6 months. Jeanne leaves behind her husband Guy of 42 years, her daughter Erin, son-in-law Phillip, grandson Chase, a grandson on the way, and her beloved dog "A Boy Named Sue". Additionally, Jeanne is survived by her aunts, Ruth Gibbons, Bernadette McLaughlin, Aunt Angela and Uncle Jack McLaughlin, brothers Paul and Phillip Karshis, their wives, her nephews Matthew, Sean Patrick, and Wade Karshis, their wives, and her great-nieces Lena and Luna. Jeanne is predeceased by her parents Eleanor McLaughlin Karshis and Frank Karshis. Calling hours for Jeanne will be held at Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St, Ashland from 1-3 and 5-7 on Monday October 8. Her funeral service will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 105 Southville Rd, Southborough at 10am on Tuesday October 9. Burial will be in West Bowdoin, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute or the Hospice Foundation of America
