Janet Gilbert Morais
June 23, 1950 — February 5, 2026
It is with broken hearts that we share the sudden passing of Janet Gilbert Morais, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and loyal friend whose warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mary Gilbert Perry and Leon Gilbert, and is lovingly remembered alongside her siblings: Kate Ketchum and her husband Ernie, Beth Gilbert, Tom Gilbert, and Patricia Johnston and her husband Craig. Janet was also a devoted stepmother to Michael Morais, Robert Morais, and Michelle Morais, and is further remembered by many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is survived by her loving husband, Isidro "Izzy" Morais, with whom she shared many of her happiest moments—especially days spent together on the golf course and quiet Sundays cheering on the New England Patriots side by side. She is also survived by her sons, Michael Trychon and his wife Anna, and Timothy Trychon; and by her beloved daughter-in-law, Kris Ann Trychon, whom she loved deeply as her own.
Janet was a hairdresser by trade, but her true gift was the way she changed lives simply by being herself. She brought lightness into every room she entered, led always by her big, beautiful smile. She had an extraordinary ability to make others feel heard, supported, and cared for, no matter what they were facing. Janet always seemed to have a laugh ready at just the right moment, and those closest to her often said she simply had "the magic."
She was the proud and adoring grandmother to Tristen, Jake, Timmy, and Sedona, who were the greatest joy of her life. Her bond with each of them was special, and she shared an especially close and treasured connection with Timmy that filled her with pride and happiness.
She will be remembered not only for her warmth and humor, but also for the little sayings that made her unmistakably Janet—especially her playful reminder, "Here's your hat, what's your hurry?"
Visiting hours will be held Friday, February 13, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Matarese Funeral Home in Ashland.
A private graveside burial will take place on Saturday, February 14.
In lieu of formal expressions of sympathy, and in honor of Janet's spirit, her family asks that you simply sit down, share a good meal with the people you love, and raise a glass of Chardonnay to Janet—just as she would have wanted.
Janet's love, laughter, and light will be deeply missed, but her presence will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
