James Edward DeSista, 95, formerly of Warwick, RI, passed away, Sunday, June 14th at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing Home in Natick, MA. Born in Wakefield, RI, he was the son of the late Antonio and Antonetta (DiPietro) DeSista and husband of the late Carmella (Carcieri) DeSista who died in 2007. A 1936 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Mr. DeSista spent his entire career with the US Army Corps of Engineers as a civil engineer, retiring in 1974. He received several commendations including the Decoration for Meritorious Civilian Service. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Rock Creek Council, in Bethesda, MD. He is survived by his son, Robert James DeSista and his wife Mary Ann of Ashland; two grandchildren; Anna Lee DeSista MD, of Seattle, WA, and Gregory James DeSista and wife Kerry of Somerville, MA; three sisters; Josephine Italiano, Melina DeSalvo, and Loretta Haigh; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Americo and Francesco DeSista and Louise Marzilli. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 27th at 11:00am at St. Francis Cemetery, Wakefield, RI.
