Irene Slowikowski 83, of Ashland formerly of Saugerties, NY passed away August 31st in Framingham after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late James Slowikowski, who died in 1976. Born in Czechoslovakia she had lived in Saugerties, NY most of her life before moving to Marlboro and later Hopkinton. She was a nurse's aide employed with the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY for over twenty five years retiring in 1986. Mrs. Slowikowski was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a leader in the Saugerties Girl Scouts, both in Saugerties, NY. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross. She is survived by one daughter: Patricia Callen and her husband Robert of Ashland, and one granddaughter: Lauren Callen a senior at Ashland High School. A funeral Mass will be said on Thursday morning at 9:00 AM in St. Cecilia's Church, 54 Esty Street Ashland with interment to take place on Friday in St. Mary's of the Snow Cemetery, Saugerties. N.Y. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening in the Matarese Funeral Home 325 Main Street Ashland from 5-7 PM.
