Obituary

Irene Renner of Ashland passed away Monday November 21st. She was the daughter of the late Henry Woodcock and Irene McDonald Woodcock, born on Dec. 26, 1923 in Fall River. She was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Hearts, Fall River, Kings County Hospital School of Nursing, R.N., Boston University School of Nursing, B.S., and Framingham State College, M.S. During World War II she was an Army Cadet Nurse at Halloran General Hospital and Cushing Hospital where she met her future husband. She held nursing and supervisory positions at Framingham Community Hospital, Framingham Union Hospital, Cushing State Hospital and the Framingham Heart Study. She was instrumental in creating and leading the successful LPN program at Keefe Technical School where she concluded her career as teacher and administrator in 1985. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Golden Rays at St. Tarcisius Church. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, travel, reading and above all conversation. She possessed a remarkable empathy and compassion for people in need. Her first class mind remained undiminished by the years.
Mrs. Renner was predeceased by her brother Henry P. Woodcock, Jr., sister Shirley Howarth and her beloved husband of sixty-three years, John Alfred Renner.
She is survived by her sons Dr. Carl Renner and his wife Renee of Wilmington, DE, and John Eric Renner of Ashland, and three grandchildren, Carla, John and Marie Renner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Tarcisius Church, 562 Waverly St. Framingham  at 10 am on December 3 with burial to follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours will be held Friday Dec. 2 from 4 to 7 pm in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street Ashland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sons of Mary Missionary Society, 567 Salem End Road, Framingham, MA 01702 or Birthright of Framingham, 79A Main Street, MA 01702.
