Obituary

Irene P. Mangan, 81, of Ashland, passed away, Friday, Dec. 15th at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Donahue) Barrett. She was the wife of Francis Mangan, to whom she was married 57 years. Irene was a graduate of St. Vincent's Hospital Nursing School and was employed for 40 years as a Registered Nurse with Framingham Union Hospital, retiring in 1990. A resident of Ashland for almost 60 years, she was active with the Ashland Seniors and the Friends of the Council on Aging. Mrs. Mangan was a devoted member of St. Cecilia's Parish and was a member of the choir for 30 years. She enjoyed playing bridge and many years of traveling. In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children: Paul F Mangan and his wife Tina of Holliston; Edward J Mangan of Southborough; Peggy Mangan-Cross and her husband Marshall of Stow; Christine Lazar and her husband Greg of Upton; Owen R Mangan and his wife Sheila of Hopkinton; and Andrew T Mangan and his fiancé' Claire Chew of Venice, CA; ten grandchildren: Matthew, Krystin, Jack, and Carly Mangan; Nathan and Noelle Cross; Brendan and Bridget Lazar; Benjamin and Sarah Gemski; and three siblings: Robert Barrett of Providence, RI; Billy Barrett of Anchorage, AK; and Anne Winchenbach of Upton, MA. She was the mother of the late Mary Catherine Mangan-Gemski, who died in 2005. A funeral Mass will be celebrated, Tuesday, December 19th, at 9:00 AM in St. Cecilia's Church in Ashland. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Matarese Funeral Home (www.mataresefuneral.com), 325 Main St. in Ashland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to MetroWest Hospice, 85 Lincoln St. Framingham, MA 01702 or St. Cecilia's Family Center, 54 Esty St. Ashland, MA 01721.
