Hugo Ernani Giargiari, 92, a lifelong Ashland resident, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Helen (Dancause) Giargiari, who died in 2004. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Clodoveo and Ida (Tognoli) Giargiari. He attended Ashland schools and graduated from Ashland High School in 1931. He loved sports and was captain of the 1930 Ashland football team. In 1934, he founded the family restaurant, Crosti's Grove on Pleasant Street in Ashland. In 1948 he acquired Framingham Liquors and, along with his family, he remained active in the liquor business until his recent poor health. He was a lifetime member of Framingham Country Club, an active member of the Christopher Columbus Society and a member of St. Cecilia's Church in Ashland. He leaves his children, Scooch Giargiari and his wife, Claire, of Ashland, Edward Giargiari and his wife, Marcia, of Tilton, N.H., Lawrence Giargiari and his wife, Yvonne, of Holliston, Robert Giargiari and his wife, Barbara, of Natick, Philip Giargiari and his partner, Gail Cotter, of Ashland, Rita Ghilani and her husband, Gary, of Ashland, Linda Carney of Medfield and Helen Pimentel and her husband, Russell, of Northbridge; one sister, Enes Plouffe of Wellesley, 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Nesti Giargiari, Armando Giargiari and Lawrence Giargiari. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 5, at 9 a.m., at St. Cecilia's Church on Esty Street in Ashland. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Ashland. Calling hours are Tuesday, April 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St., Ashland.
